Advertising does more harm than good to societies

Advertising does more harm than good to societies

Advertising means the name given to the process of commercial promotion of goods and services in order to increase its sales. Advertising can be done by means of a number of mediums like television, newspapers, wall paintings, billboards, magazines, Internet, by the word-of-mouth and in many other ways. Advertising informs the buyers about the availability of a certain product or service in the market and it encourages them to buy the product. Advertising can meet the demand of certain people. I agree that advertising does more harm than good to societies.

Advertising helps us choose between competing goods. Adverts will try to compete on price, helping us seek out the cheapest or best value products. In most cases advertising does not make us go shopping, we would be planning to buy food, clothes, gifts and entertainment. What advertising does is to help us make better decisions about how to spend our money, by giving us more information about the choices available.
However, it could harm societies in many ways. Some advertisement try to make people feel inferior if they don't have the product, or if they have something which the product would change. For example, perceptions of beauty and fashion in particular have been terribly distorted. The societies especially young people have low-self esteem, and lead unhealthy lifestyles just because of some products. Teenagers would do anything to get what they want which brings benefits only to the advertisement.
In addition,Advertising gives the impression, especially to children, that they can and should have everything they want. This makes people too interested in material things. People are becoming more selfish and obsessed with their possessions, and losing their values of patience, hard work, moderation and the importance of non-material things like family and friends. This harms their relationships and their personal development, which has serious effects for society as a whole.
Furthermore, most of advertisement have the objectives to make profits. They did not want to provide goods of a product to their customers. This means that they regularly advertise unhealthy or harmful things. This could bring harm to their customers especially to those customers which are brand loyalty. They believe in the advertisement that are advertise through the media as it describe about the information about the product especially when the product is advertise through television which gave image and sound effects that attract the customers.

In conclusion, Advertising does more harm to societies as I mentioned above. Although advertising can inform people about the availability of the new products, advertising seems to affect other people. It will not effect the buyers but also the societies.
